Description
Recorded in 1976, “Bat Chain Puller” was initially slated for release on Frank Zappa & Herb Cohen’s label DiscReet Records. Frank and Herb’s relationship fell on hard times and subsequently ended in 1976 with lawsuits that held up the master tapes for BCP in Zappa’s Vault for roughly 35 years. The Zappa Family Trust finally released the original album in 2012. Although most of the compositions found their way onto later Beefheart records, the sessions in 1976 are known to contain a special “mojo” not present on the re-recorded releases. Produced by the Captain and engineer Kerry McNabb, Bat Chain Puller is essential Beefheart.
